I was a little surprised just how easy to use this device was. I literally had it up and running in under 5 minutes (most of that time was spent hanging over my entertainment center trying to get to a power plug…. but that’s my problem.)
It could not be simpler… I didn’t even have to look at any instructions or anything. I plugged the power cord into the unit (it is a micro USB charger, like many cell phones use these days). My set up was a little easier, just because I already had a 3.5mm audio cable coming out of my entertainment center, so I just utilized that. After I had the thing all plugged in, it had a red ring indicating it was powered on. I then went to my Chromebook (that I’m typing this review on, jamming to Pandora on my home stereo rather than it’s dinky speakers, thanks to this device!) On my Chromebook, I just opened the bluetooth manager, clicked enable, it started scanning for devices, so I just pushed and held the button on the Roverbeats for a second, and it started to flash. A second later, on my chromebook “UNIFY” appeared, I double clicked on it, and that was it! Connected!! I’m sitting on my couch about 10-15 feet away and it is working flawlessly, no drops or hiccups. To give the Unify credit where credit is due… I used to have a Belkin unit that was supposed to perform the same function, but it would cut out all the time from the same distance — so much so, I never used the dang thing. That being said, I’m impressed with the sound of the Unify! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting to stream music to a home audio receiver as I have described, it is working flawlessly and like I said, it couldn’t have been easier to set up.
(Also to note: The unit came packaged with BOTH a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, and a 3.5mm to RCA red/white cable) If you are an audio guy (or girl) like myself those 3.5mm to RCA cables are golden. With all the electronics around my house, I can’t get enough of those cables, so I was happy to see they included one, I will be sure to be able to use it elsewhere around the house — thanks Etekcity for including those!
Also, the unit was packed very professionally. I was impressed. It came in a very sturdy box, similiar to what you would get an iphone in. everything was wrapped in foam, etc. so it arrived in perfect shape. It was packaged well enough that it would look good to give as a gift. It reminded me of the packaging of some Ludacris Soul headphones I got last year as Christmas gifts… If the box the gift comes in looks good when they unwrap it, it immediately looks like they got something of high quality.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some rockin’ out to do!
